Toxic foam floats on a stretch of river that receives most of Delhi's untreated sewage.
The 22 km stretch of the Yamuna through Delhi is less than 2% of the river's length but accounts for a large share of its pollution. Phosphates from detergents create thick white foam, and dissolved oxygen often drops to zero. Interceptor sewers and new treatment plants are the main remedies being built.
