Buriganga River
Dhaka, Bangladesh ยท 23.69ยฐ, 90.40ยฐ ยท River pollution
Dhaka's lifeline river turned black from tannery chemicals, dyes and sewage.
The Buriganga flows past Dhaka, one of the world's most densely populated cities. For decades the Hazaribagh tannery district discharged chemicals straight into it, alongside industrial dyes and sewage. The tanneries were relocated in 2017, but the river remains heavily polluted and biologically dead in stretches.
In the game
Buriganga River flares up as Polluted water. The fix is a gesture: drag through the floating waste to sweep it up. Done right, it becomes Water cleaned โป๏ธ. Finish all three steps of its chain in one round for a combo, or take your time in Explore mode: a place you fully restore stays green on your map for good.
