Citarum River
West Java, Indonesia · -6.52°, 107.42° · River pollution
Textile factories and household waste have made this one of the most polluted rivers on Earth.
The Citarum supplies water to tens of millions of people around Jakarta and Bandung. Hundreds of textile factories discharge dyes and heavy metals into it, and household rubbish has at times covered the surface completely. A government clean-up programme launched in 2018 aims to make the water drinkable again.
In the game
Citarum River flares up as Polluted water. The fix is a gesture: drag through the floating waste to sweep it up. Done right, it becomes Water cleaned ♻️. Finish all three steps of its chain in one round for a combo, or take your time in Explore mode: a place you fully restore stays green on your map for good.
