Pasig River and Manila Bay
Metro Manila, Philippines · 14.59°, 120.97° · Ocean plastic
One of the largest river sources of plastic reaching the ocean, feeding a bay once declared dead.
Studies rank the Pasig among the top rivers worldwide for plastic flowing into the sea. The Pasig was declared biologically dead in 1990; clean-up drives and trash-trap interceptors have since brought some life back. Manila Bay's rehabilitation has included controversial beach 'nourishment' with crushed dolomite.
