Lagos Lagoon
Lagos, Nigeria · 6.47°, 3.45° · River pollution
Africa's largest city pours waste and sewage into a shallow lagoon where communities live on stilts and sand dredgers work.
Lagos Lagoon is ringed by one of the fastest-growing megacities on Earth. Household refuse, untreated sewage, sawmill waste and industrial effluent flow into it, and sand dredging for land reclamation stirs up the bottom. The stilt community of Makoko and the fishermen who depend on the lagoon face declining catches and periodic evictions.
In the game
Lagos Lagoon flares up as Polluted water. The fix is a gesture: drag through the floating waste to sweep it up. Done right, it becomes Water cleaned ♻️. Finish all three steps of its chain in one round for a combo, or take your time in Explore mode: a place you fully restore stays green on your map for good.
