Congo Basin logging
Tshopo, DR Congo · 0.50°, 25.20° · Deforestation
The world's second-largest rainforest is losing cover to small-scale farming, charcoal and logging roads.
The Congo Basin stores more carbon per hectare than the Amazon and shelters forest elephants, gorillas and bonobos. Most loss comes from shifting agriculture and charcoal production by communities with few alternatives, plus industrial logging concessions that open roads into intact forest. Community forestry and clean cooking fuels are among the most effective responses.
In the game
Congo Basin logging flares up as Land destroyed. The fix is a gesture: slash through the bulldozers to stop the clearing. Done right, it becomes Damage stopped 🌱.
